The field’s concept is based on the assumption that the professions of television and radio dramaturge and scriptwriter require both specialised training and a broader erudition in the field of cultural history, mass communication and a diverse range of artistic and journalistic genres.
The aim of this multi-layered education is to create dramaturges and scriptwriters who are technically skilled as well as thoughtful and artistically creative.
Therefore, in addition to lectures on the creation of works from the radio and television genres (including practical exercises with audiovisual technology), the study programme also includes courses focused on the sociology of mass media and culture in general, film typology, art criticism, the history of Czech and world theatre and selected chapters from poetics and literary history. It allows listeners to develop their ability to respond to the specific demands of television and radio from a broader cultural perspective.
In creative writing seminars and in learning about various media genres, students are encouraged to make independent attempts at creating shorter journalistic, prose and dramatic works. Radio and television adaptations of literary works are also paid their fair share of attention. It is precisely with regard to the role the popularisation of theatre, literature and films can play in the media we place emphasis on the fact that students are well versed in these fields and get to know different approaches to interpretation and implementation.
Radio and TV Dramaturgy and Scriptwriting at Theatre Faculty JAMU allows students to touch upon a number of other fields of dramatic arts, their events and projects. Therefore, they can get an idea of the possibilities of acting not only on stage, but also in front of a camera or microphone. They have the opportunity to write their texts for specific performers and verify how their original idea works in practice.
Thanks to comprehensive knowledge of the field and its latest developments, the master’s degree studies graduates are able to use and develop ideas, attitudes and creative activities across the media spectrum in an original way, with an emphasis on scriptwriting and original work. They can create original radio dramatic or experimental works, as well as documentary and journalistic radio works in presentable quality. In terms of scriptwriting, they are able to create dramatic or documentary audiovisual works. They can apply original creative methods in the field of audio-vision and multimedia, create radio and television programmes from the position of a dramaturge, prepare expert opinions on scripts, create full-length scripts, dramaturgically lead the development of scripts and documentaries and work in creative public media teams and independent productions.
